About Certification:

Termites and Other Wood-Destroying Pests IPM is designed to meet the certification standards set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The National Association of Certified Home Inspectors has approved Purdue's Pest Management Courses for continuing education.

To determine if this course has been approved for certification, recertification, or continuing education credits in your state, contact your state's pesticide training office or certifying agency.

Termites and Other Wood-Destroying Pests is a comprehensive training program in the management of pests in wood. It was developed to provide urban foresters, home inspection professionals, and urban pest management professionals with extensive information on wood-destroying organisms, insects, and diseases common to urban and industrial areas. You will learn about pest prevention and control and arthropod and disease identification. You will also learn about the biology of subterranean termites, drywood and dampwood termites, carpenter ants, powderpost beetles (anobiid, bostrichid, and lyctid), old house borer, round-headed borers, flat-headed borers, and other wood-boring beetles.

Course Work

Course work includes reading assignments and chapter exams that are completed and returned to Purdue University to be graded. When you have completed the course work, a final exam will be sent to a proctor selected by you. Your proctor will administer the exam and return it to Purdue to be graded. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate from Purdue University.

You can expect to complete your course work in 80-100 hours.

Registration

Open. You may enroll at any time. You will have one year from your date of enrollment to complete the program. If you cannot complete the course in one year, you may purchase a one-time, six-month extension for $50. Regardless of when it is purchased, the six-month extension begins the day after the course expires. This course is eligible to be transferred to another student if no lessons have been submitted for grading, either online or by correspondence. The original course expiration date will apply to the alternate student.
